Essential Steps for Hosts

Hurricane preparedness
With Hurricane Milton approaching, it's crucial to protect your property and ensure guest safety in hurricane-prone areas like Florida.

Follow these steps to minimize damage and provide peace of mind for your guests.

1. Stay Informed on Hurricane Updates

Monitor local and national weather reports for updates on Hurricane Milton’s path and strength. Communicate evacuation orders to your guests immediately, and ensure a clear plan is in place if evacuation becomes necessary.

2. Guest Communication

Inform your guests of the situation, offering guidance on how to prepare. Provide info on nearby shelters, local supplies, and emergency contacts, including local authorities and hospitals.

3. Secure the Property

  • Bring in outdoor furniture and decorations to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles.

  • Close and lock all windows and doors. If possible, install storm shutters or board up windows with plywood.

  • Place sandbags around doors and garages to protect against flooding.

4. Document the Property

Take photos of the property before and after the storm to help with insurance claims if needed.

5. Prepare an Emergency Kit

Stock essentials like:

  • First aid supplies (bandages, pain relievers, antiseptic wipes)

  • Flashlights and extra batteries

  • Emergency blankets

  • Whistle

  • Non-perishable snacks

  • Portable phone chargers

Stay prepared and keep your property and guests safe!
